Locations and classes

Locations and classes are optional tags for reporting. They are not accounts and they are not product categories. There is no Settings page for either list — you create one when you pick it. A single-site workspace can skip both.

Location vs class

A location is a branch, office, or warehouse. It sits on the whole document or journal. A class is a department, project, or cost centre. It sits on a journal line. Auto-post copies the invoice or bill location onto the journal; it does not copy a class, because sales and purchase lines have no class field.

Locations

Open any document that has a Location field, or a journal, and choose Add Location. You need a unique code and a name (example: `MNL` / Main Office). Description is optional. Quick-add does not ask for address; the record can store address and contact later if you edit it through the same lists.

Location is optional. Leave it blank if you have one site. Use it when you need P&L, balance sheet, or inventory by branch. Pickers show active locations.

What location does in posting

ActionResult
Set location on an invoice or bill, then auto-postThe journal header gets that location
Leave location blankThe journal has no location. Reports that filter by location omit that entry when a location is selected
Customer or supplier paymentNo location field on those payments

If you hit the plan’s location cap, you cannot add another until you upgrade or remove a location. That cap is seats-and-sites, not document volume. Details are in Plan and billing.

Classes

Open a journal (Books → Journal entries, or a manual journal). On each line, the class picker can Add Class. You need a unique code and a name (example: `MKT` / Marketing). Description is optional.

Class is optional per line. Different lines on the same journal can have different classes. Use it to split one journal across departments or projects. It does not change which GL account posts — that is still the account on the line.

What class cannot do today

You might expectWhat Seedflow does
Class on an invoice or bill lineThose lines have product, tax, and amount — not class. Tag the journal after it posts, or enter a manual journal with class
Auto-post filling class from the productAuto-post does not set class on journal lines
A Classes settings pageNone. Create from the line picker

Not the same as other lists

Easy to mix up with other “categories.”
